THE IDEAL CANDIDATE IS:

A Catholic working professional in any industry between the ages of 25 and 40, who wants to fully live their calling to be a “light to the nations”—becoming a generous leader, exemplifying Christ’s love and mission in their workplace, career, and the wider civil society, through a rich, practical understanding of Catholic social teaching.

WHY BECOME A LUMEN GENTIUM FELLOW?

GOD HAS A MISSION FOR YOU.

Saint John Henry Cardinal Newman famously wrote, “God has created me to do Him some definite service.” Lay people like you are called to “seek the kingdom of God by engaging in temporal affairs and by ordering them according to the plan of God… work[ing] for the sanctification of the world from within as a leaven. In this way they may make Christ known to others, especially by the testimony of a life resplendent in faith, hope and charity.” (Lumen gentium)

YOU NEED A VISION.

But how do we live out our God-given mission? We can use our skills and talents to do good, advance the truth, and develop what is wonderful in the world. But first, we need to understand what is good, true, and beautiful. If we have a clear and practical vision of the common good, and how we can contribute to it through our professional vocations, than we can fulfill our calling to order the world according to the plan of God. But where do we find that vision?

THE CHURCH HAS THAT VISION.

The Compendium of the Social Doctrine of the Church—an overview of Catholic social teaching—describes this doctrine as a tool for forming the laity so they can effectively live out their “daily mission.” The principles contained in the Church’s social doctrine are a blueprint for how we can practically and effectively bring the Gospel to life in our culture and everyday lives. To understand how you can serve Christ in your professional life, you need to understand Catholic social teaching.

UNDERGO DEEP FORMATION.

Every month, Lumen Gentium Fellows delve into the most important documents of Catholic social doctrine—the Church’s wisdom on the realities of modern culture and life. In conversation with other Lumen Gentium Fellows—all brilliant and talented professionals—you’ll discover what this doctrine has to say about your own career, and how you can bring the Gospel alive in your sector. You will develop a vision of the common good that will serve your personal mission—and help you become an authentic leader.

DEVELOP AS A LEADER.

Our society is desperate for real leaders—individuals of ability and commitment who act magnanimously, live humbly, are rooted in an intense and devoted prayer life, and are committed to Gospel values. The Lumen Gentium Forum helps you become such a leader, in part by hearing from and networking with senior leaders of this calabre.
